Chartek Outperforms Traditional Cement Based Coatings
In light of the numerous drawbacks with Cement based passive fire protection, Petrobras opted to protect the P-53 with Chartek epoxy intumescent fire protection.
The P-53, floating production unit (FPU) anchored off the coast of Brazil in the Marlim Leste field will be producing 180,000 barrels of oil and 6 million cubic meters of natural gas per day.
International Protective Coatings coated approximately 1,600 square meters (17,222 square feet) of steel on the P-53 with Chartek, which delivered Petrobas a lower installed weight, easy application without the need for welded pins, and long term anti-corrosion protection, saving both time and money.
