The Water Cube

The Water Cube - Beijing State of the Arts Aquatics Centre

As host of the 2008 Olympic Games, Beijing prepared state-of-the-art venues for all the events.

As home of the aquatics events the 'Water Cube' is a rectangular steel structure, which plays on the geometry of water bubbles making it a very organic and unique venue.

It was also designed to reduce energy consumption, aided by the structure being covered with an inflatable transparent material known as ETFE.  EFTE traps 20% of solar energy inside the pool, which helps heat both the interior area and pool water.

As one of the iconic structures for the Games the Water Cube’s steel is protected and enhanced aesthetically by Interfine® acrylic polysiloxane.
