Hydrocarbon Fire Protection Coatings

AkzoNobel’s hydrocarbon fire protection coatings range is designed to protect industrial and offshore installations, including structural steel, vessels, pipework, blast walls and decks from the effects of hydrocarbon fires. Our Chartek range of epoxy hydrocarbon intumescent coatings provides corrosion and fire protection to a variety of onshore and offshore assets. Our bauxite formulated Interkote range of cementitious fire protection coatings is optimized for onshore hydrocarbon fire protection.

Chartek Epoxy Intumescent Coatings

Chartek 7E Based upon the Chartek 7 technology platform, Chartek 7E provides exceptional fire and corrosion protection throughout the lifetime of an asset. It is also self-reinforced, removing the need for mesh reinforcement, simplifying the application process. Chartek 7E is suitable for use on steel up to 80°C (176°F), offering outstanding pool and jet fire resistance for up to 2 hours, and up to a 60% reduction in installed weight against similar products in the market.
Chartek 8E Chartek 8E provides exceptional pool fire performance, with up to 30% lower installed weight compared to alternative products, allowing for greater flexibility in structural design. It improves coating efficiency through a reduced number of coats, achieving up to 60 minutes pool fire resistance without the need for mesh. Boron-free, Chartek 8E can be applied to areas with a continuous operating temperature up to 120ºC (248ºF), making it the ideal choice for structural steelwork and process equipment.
Chartek 7 Chartek 7 is the most widely certified epoxy intumescent in the world and has protected over 6 million square meters of steel globally over 25 years. It is ideally suited to assets requiring long duration fire resistance, providing up to 3 hours jet fire protection. Suitable for use on steel up to 80°C (176°F), it is extremely tolerant to environmental and application process conditions and has a low practical applied density.
Chartek 1620CSP

Chartek 1620CSP is a unique epoxy intumescent coating that provides combined cryogenic spill protection (CSP) and hydrocarbon fire protection suitable for use on FLNGs and FSRUs. Chartek 1620CSP protects against leaks of liquefied natural gas (LNG) at -162ºC (-260ºF) and is designed to enhance yard productivity through fast application and low applied thickness. Chartek 1620CSP also provides excellent corrosion and blast resistance.

Chartek 1709 Chartek 1709 is a high performance epoxy intumescent fire protection coating, part of our ANSI/UL1709 listed offer. Having covered millions of square meters over a period of 10 years, Chartek 1709 can be used with confidence for a wide range of applications and fire scenarios, including up to 4 hours pool fire resistance, in addition to jet fire, vessel and cryogenic spill protection. Chartek 1709 offers greatly reduced thickness with no mesh requirement for 60 minutes pool fire duration. Its low installed weight and excellent application properties make it the ideal choice for modular construction or site application.
Chartek 2218

A new epoxy passive fire protection product, Chartek 2218 is capable of increasing coated steel throughput by up to 50% per day compared to other epoxy PFP materials. Chartek 2218 is designed for use onshore across oil, gas and chemical projects and provides up to a 20% reduction in applied costs against the market leading epoxy PFP through its simplified installation and unique rapid cure properties. Even at low temperatures, faster application and improved production rates can be achieved also helping to reduce overall costs compared to other epoxy PFP alternatives.
