Carbon Capture, Utilization & Storage (CCUS) Coating Solutions

CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization & Storage) is a vital technology in reducing global carbon emissions. By capturing CO₂, industries like power, oil & gas, cement, and steel can meet stricter environmental regulations and move towards net-zero goals.

At International®, our expertise and track record in CCUS coating solutions help industries implement effective CO₂ capture strategies with minimal disruption to existing infrastructure.

Key Benefits:

  • Reduces emissions in high-impact sectors: Power, Oil & Gas, Cement, Steel
  • Uses proven, scalable technology for large-scale adoption
  • Compatible with existing industrial infrastructure and investment strategies

A Legacy of Success in Heavy Industry & Thermal Power

For nearly 50 years, International® has supplied high-performance coatings to reduce emissions and protect key assets, including flue gas desulfurization (FGD) units in coal-fired plants. Today, we bring that trusted expertise to CCUS facilities, ensuring durability, efficiency, and long-term performance.

1. Pre-Combustion Carbon Capture

  • Separates hydrogen & CO₂ before combustion by creating syngas, enabling CO₂ removal before combustion.
  • Ideal for new-build CCUS plants.

2. Oxyfuel Combustion

  • Burns fuel with pure oxygen to allow solvent-free CO₂ separation post-combustion.
  • Suitable for cement and lime industries.

3. Post-Combustion Carbon Capture

  • Captures CO₂ from mixed gaseous streams after standard combustion.
  • Solvent-based separation system for easy integration into existing thermal power plants, refineries, and petrochemical plants.

Solving CCUS Challenges with Advanced Coatings

Wide-angle nighttime view of a vast, illuminated oil refinery or chemical plant with complex infrastructure.

1. CO₂ and Carbonic Acid Corrosion

The Challenge: CO₂ and water are in equilibrium, and form carbonic acid, which can cause rapid equipment degradation through corrosion. This will result in equipment shutdown & loss of CO2 capture capability of the facility.

Our Solution: Our coatings – Enviroline®,  Interline®, and Ceilcote® – provide proven acid and solvent resistance to maintain long-term asset integrity.

2. Flue Gas Ducting Corrosion

The Challenge: Corrosion in flue gas ducting can cause leaks, reducing CCUS efficiency and increasing maintenance costs.

Our Solution: Ceilcote coatings provide internal protection to ducting from chemical degradation, ensuring operational reliability. Additionally, Interbond ® UPC coatings offer external protection at high temperatures.

3. Cryogenic Spill Protection

The Challenge:  Pure CO2 may be stored at low temperatures. Any accidental release may risk external structural steel embrittlement and failure.

Our Solution: Chartek is the world's most trusted brand for CSP, with a world class track record.
