Thermal Power

Helping thermal power operators protect critical infrastructure from corrosion, high temperatures and operational wear throughout the asset lifecycle.

Protecting thermal power assets in the world’s toughest environments

For decades, International® has helped protect thermal power facilities worldwide, from coal and gas-fired stations to the next generation of waste-to-energy and CCUS-enabled plants. Our coating solutions are engineered to help owners, EPCs, OEMs and applicators improve durability, reduce maintenance requirements and extend asset service life across complex operating environments. From corrosion protection for structural steel to advanced linings for FGD systems and high-temperature pipework, International® delivers proven performance backed by global technical expertise and a long-standing project record.

Complete coating solutions for thermal power assets

Thermal power plants operate in harsh environments where corrosion, chemical exposure, abrasion, immersion and extreme temperatures can affect operational reliability and lifecycle costs. International® provides coating solutions across the following areas:

Anti-corrosive and heavy-duty protection
Interzinc® zinc-rich primers and Intergard® epoxy coatings deliver longterm corrosion protection for structural steel, piping and equipment. Interzone® barrier coatings provide durable protection in high-wear and immersion environments.

Tank linings and chemical-resistant systems
Interline®, Ceilcote® and Enviroline® linings are engineered for aggressive chemical exposure, FGD systems, water treatment assets and tank internals. Fast-curing systems help reduce downtime and support rapid return to service.

High-temperature and CUI protection
Interbond® and Intertherm® coatings provide long-term protection for insulated and uninsulated steel operating from cryogenic temperatures up to 650°C (1202°F), including resistance to thermal shock and corrosion under insulation.

Passive fire protection
Chartek® and Interchar® passive fire protection systems help preserve the structural integrity of steelwork in hydrocarbon and cellulosic fire scenarios.

Areas we protect

Our coatings are designed to support critical areas across thermal power plants, including:

  • Structural steel and equipment
  • Areas exposed to impact, abrasion and immersion
  • Tank and pipe internals and water-treatment assets
  •  External surfaces of pipes and vessels requiring temperature resistance
  •  OEM-fabricated components

Meeting the challenges of thermal power

Thermal power projects are complex and high-risk, requiring strong engineering, materials and project-management expertise.

Complex engineering integration
Multi-disciplinary mechanical, electrical and civil design can create a high risk of misalignment.

Harsh operating conditions
Assets are exposed to high temperatures, corrosion, chemicals and aggressive environments.

Environmental and regulatory requirements
Projects must address emissions control, sustainability targets and evolving compliance standards.

Site-specific factors
Location, climate, corrosion exposure and water availability can influence project requirements.

Large-scale project complexity
Heavy infrastructure, logistics and global supply-chain dependencies add further challenges.

Cost, schedule and risk pressures
High capital expenditure, long timelines and EPC and project-execution risks must be carefully managed.

Reliability and lifecycle performance
Durability, maintenance requirements and the need to minimise downtime remain critical throughout an asset’s operating life.

Why International?

  • More than 140 years of coatings expertise, backed by proven systems and independent testing
  • Global manufacturing, supply capability and an extensive thermal power project track record
  • AMPP- and FROSIO-certified technical support teams
