International launches Interchar 1150 for faster, more efficient onsite passive fire protection
International® has launched Interchar® 1150, a waterborne intumescent passive fire protection (PFP) coating for onsite structural steel application that delivers significant efficiency benefits in application time and volumes.
Developed for the built environment market, Interchar® 1150 is well suited for onsite applications across a wide range of infrastructure projects, including data centres, commercial facilities, industrial manufacturing facilities, tall buildings, airports and stadia.
Designed for faster onsite application
Interchar® 1150 extends the Interchar range from International® with a formulation optimised specifically for 4-sided I/H beams and columns, where it delivers the lowest applied film thicknesses currently available from International®.
It provides structural steel fire protection ratings from 30 to 120 minutes, with the formulation optimised for 90 and 120-minute periods.
Lower coating volumes. Fewer coats. Faster project delivery.
For open structural member projects, Interchar® 1150 can reduce intumescent volumes by up to 50% compared to other products on the market. For many specifications, this also reduces the number of coats required.
On mixed-section projects involving both open and closed structural members, combining Interchar® 1150 with Interchar® 1120 for hollow sections can deliver applied volume reductions of up to 39%.
The faster dry times of Interchar® 1150 allow applicators to apply the required coating thicknesses more quickly. In a typical use case, the combination of faster drying and lower product loadings can reduce application time from four days to two, helping to lower labour costs, accelerate construction schedules and minimise disruption to other onsite trades.
Supporting more sustainable construction
As a waterborne coating, Interchar® 1150 offers strong environmental credentials, including a very low VOC content of 22 g/L, supporting compliance and improving worker safety.
Lower application volumes also reduce packaging waste, while the coating can contribute towards LEED and BREEAM green building rating systems, helping project developers and contractors enhance their sustainability credentials.

Developed to meet demanding fire protection standards
Interchar® 1150 has been tested to EN13381-8:2013 and achieves a C-s1,d0 fire reaction rating in accordance with EN13501-1:2018.

The coating is fully compatible with a range of International® primers and topcoats, enabling straightforward integration into existing specification frameworks.
